PSEB (Pakistan Software Export Board) registration is one of the highest-value, lowest-cost steps a Pakistani freelancer earning foreign IT/ITeS income can take.
Why Register?
PSEB registration is required to access the lowest tax rates available under Section 154A on your export income (see our freelancer tax calculator to see exactly how much this can save you), and it also provides a degree of official recognition as an IT exporter, which can be useful for banking and business purposes.
Eligibility
Individual freelancers, as well as registered companies, can generally apply for PSEB registration, provided their income genuinely qualifies as IT or IT-enabled services export income.
Documents You'll Typically Need
- CNIC
- NTN (get one first if you don't already have it — see our NTN registration guide)
- Bank account details
- Evidence of your freelance/export income (platform profiles, invoices, or contracts)
The Application Process
Registration is done through PSEB's official portal (pseb.org.pk), with a modest registration fee. Processing typically takes a couple of weeks, though this can vary.
After Registration
Keep your registration active and in good standing — lapses can affect your eligibility for preferential tax rates going forward. It's also worth periodically confirming your details are current, especially if your income or business structure changes.
